Tomás Bermúdez

General Manager, Country Department Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic, and Country Representative in Panama, IDB

Tomás Bermúdez, a dual Venezuelan and Colombian citizen, is the General Manager of the Country Department for Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic (CID) since May 2023. Simultaneously with this function, he also carries out the duties of IDB Country Representative in Panamá.

Mr. Bermudez was the Manager of the Andean Group Country Department at the Inter-American Development Bank from July 2020 until April 2023; being responsible for the promotion and development of Bank country strategies and programming in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. During this period, he was also IDB Representative in Peru (2020-2023).

Before, he was the IDB Representative in Mexico (2018-2020), the IDB Representative in Trinidad and Tobago (2015-2018), and the IDB Representative in Panama (2011-2015), being responsible for the management of the Bank’s sovereign and non-sovereign portfolio in the country, as well as technical assistance initiatives. Prior to that, he served as head of Equity Investments of the InterAmerican Investment Corporation (IIC, now IDB Invest), part of the IDB Group, and as manager of the IIC-China Equity Fund.

Before joining the IDB, Mr. Bermudez was Vice-President of Debt Capital Markets for BBVA Securities in New York in charge of fixed income and syndicated loan transactions in Latin America. Mr. Bermudez holds a BA and an MBA from American University in Washington DC.
